| Each of us has at least once faced classical topographic maps - whether at school, or when being a traveler. Such maps are famous for creating a very exact presentation of the area. They display all the objects with scaling and using various lines. Although standard topographic maps represent in the most part a composition of symbols that aren't so simple for a customary user to comprehend. Sometimes you need a specialist to explain some features on the map. Anyway, it'll take some time and efforts to learn the topographic maps language. Luckily, there are lots of other ways to depict an area. They are numerous, but can be divided into 3 groups: - Illustrated maps - Panoramic maps - Pictorial maps You can surmise what these kinds of maps constitute by their names, but we will give some explanation to avert their confusing. Thus, an illustrated map represents a topographic map with a number of added illustrations. It signifies that certain objects on the map (for instance, churches, parks or other features) will be marked by little pictures. This type of maps is the closest one to the standard variant. A panoramic map may be regarded as a picture of the landscape. From time to time it's also called a perspective because it pictures a certain area like it's viewed from a certain point in space. Such maps are very accurate about dimensions, but from the other side, different individual objects are scarcely recognizable or even not recognizable at all. This type of maps is widespread in certain branches such as ski resorts depiction. As far as pictorial map is concerned this kind is concentrated on the details, but not at keeping accurate dimensions. Individual objects are pictured with their distinctive features and, consequently, are easily distinguishable. On the other hand, distances don't always correspond with the reality, sometimes the landscape can be slightly distorted or reduced as the emphasis is placed on the representation of objects. The named type of maps enjoys high popularity because of their nice looks, informative filling and easiness in use. Despite scale distortions they are great for navigating when planning a travel or looking for a certain place. |
