| Simon Lichtenberg, today aged 44, is commonly recognized in the entrepreneurial environment as the founder and Managing Director of the powerful, worldwide renowned company called, Trayton Group. Born in Denmark, he landed in China for the first time in 1987, then aged only 20. Despite his age, Lichtenberg was highly eager look for a niche in business. As part of his determination, he spent the whole year of 1987 at Fudan University, in Shanghai, studying Chinese in order to facilitate his national integration. However, he worked in Malaysia as a timber trader until 1993 before moving back to China to start off his personal firm. In his first business enterprise, Simon Lichtenberg partnered with a friend to create a small business group. But shortly after their start, the two coworkers disagreed on how to run things and separated the businesses between them. At the beginning of 1994 Lichtenberg had spent every cent of his start-up funds, US $30 000 that he had borrowed and had debts reaching US $6 000. The first timber deal saved the group. getting over from his first business troubles, Simon Lichtenberg ventured in other activities, such as exporting food and other commodities to Europe and America, and importing wood and furniture from Denmark. Yet, none of these businesses brought him profit. On his way to leave China forever, Lichtenberg earned a timber trading deal allowing him to settle his arrears and to find other contracts. In 1995, an increasing number of Danish furniture producers prospected business opening in China. a certain number of them got in touch with Simon Lichtenberg for his knowledge to speak mandarin and his knowledge of the region. Thus, groups such as BoConcept entrusted to Lichtenberg the sale of their products. He then founded his Shanghai-based company, Trayton Group, which today among other things distributes BoConcept products in furniture stores and shopping malls. Simon Lichtenberg’s business thrived at once with sales benefit reaching US $3.6 million in 1996, and US $6 million in 1997. Also in 1997, owning license from BoConcept, Trayton Group started making locally-made leather sofas and other furniture under the BoConcept trademark. nowadays, Trayton Group maintains a business focus on designing, branding, manufacturing and distribution of upholstery furniture and lifestyle products and merchandising businesses and occupation. With its global headquarter in Shanghai, the Group produces upholstery products in China and distributes and retails products to all over the world, as well as markets overseas furniture and accouterments in the China market. Trayton has 2 workshops in Shanghai and Zhejiang and it generates approximately US $100 million profits and employs approximately 2 000 persons. The best goods are sold under the brand “Simon Li” namely in the US. Now Trayton operates 17 BoConcept distribution stores nationwide. Sofapop, the Group’s mass-market lifestyle products distribution brand was set up in Shanghai in 2008, and now is operating supply and B2C in China and worldwide. The company established the Danish luxury jewelry label Georg Jensen in China in 2010. |
